The Mission of the McAlester Scottish Rite
The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite is above all else an educational institution. Throughout its history it has stood as a beacon on the shores of ignorance. Instruction about the great ideas of morality, philosophy, religion and philanthropy permeates the ritual and the writings, unencumbered by sectarian doctrine. The Scottish Rite seeks not to teach men the truth, but rather a way to the truth. Each must find it for himself.
The Scottish Rite does not teach religious truth, but does teach the great ideas of religion, along with morality. The rituals of the Scottish Rite do not teach anyone what they should think, but how they should think for themselves. The degrees presented in the Scottish Rite do not teach what to believe, but how to find a belief through moral clarity and informed knowledge.
